Laura Rowe is an artist and curator living and working in and around London. Her sculptural work is concerned with the value we place upon objects, whether this be overvalue, as with modern technologies, or undervalue, as with domestic items like sponges and stationary. Through disrupting the functionality of these objects her intention is to comment on this misplaced value, working with lowly objects and ‘high’ status materials creating juxtapositions between object and material. This unlikely pairing creates comical associations that reveal flaws in our predetermined perceptions of those objects and materials. She strives to adopt simplicity with each ‘object’, creating a relaxed series made up of subtle interventions to the objects..
Laura Rowe is currently in the final year of her BA. in Fine Art at The University for the Creative Arts, Farnham and she is an exhibition technician at South Hill Park Arts Centre, Bracknell. During the completion of her BA she has exhibited and curated a number of exhibitions the most recent of which was IRIS TURNS at Bargehouse, OXO Tower Warf and TARMAC at Lewisham Art House.
